Multitasking Editor

Caixin Global is looking for a full-time editor whose time will be divided between in-depth editing of news articles and copy editing. The job is based in Beijing. The editor must be able to reshape lengthy and often complex stories about China's economy, financial rules and companies; sharpen leads and nut graphs; and work closely with reporters to fill in holes and ensure accuracy and fairness. Additional responsibilities include editing copy on deadline; filling in for the copy desk chief or deputy copy chief when needed; and performing a variety of other tasks, such as promoting stories on social media, and editing and producing short pieces for the Caixin Flash of breaking financial news. Must be able to handle deadline pressure, write imaginative headlines, juggle, embrace flexibility and new work assignments, and contribute to a dynamic team of editors and reporters in an expanding newsroom.

Requirements: At least 10 years editing experience at a news media outlet, including at least five years on a copy desk. Must have a strong command of the AP Stylebook, some management experience and total fluency in English. A background and strong interest in business is a must.

Assistant Art Editor

We are looking for a full-time assistant art editor to help the art editor oversee the many visual elements in a demanding, growing newsroom in Beijing. The successful applicant must have a variety of art-skill sets, be able to work well under deadline pressure, and have a good command of English and fluency in written Chinese. Previous experience at a news publication is a plus, but other work samples will be accepted. We especially seek someone who can prepare initial sketches for complicated illustrations and charts. The successful applicant will have experience in charts, infographics and data visualizations projects. A major part of the job will be finding photos to accompany daily stories. The successful applicant must have a strong working knowledge of program languages and visual design tools, and must be able to get up to speed quickly on all facets of the job to be able to fill in when the art editor is on vacation.

Requirements: Must have all of the above skills, and live in or be ready to relocate to Beijing. News media experience preferred.

Fall-Semester Intern

Caixin Global is seeking interns to perform a variety of tasks in a busy newsroom, such as picking photos for daily stories, helping reporters by preparing charts for their news articles, working on our breaking-news CX Flash, doing translations, and preparing videos and writing stories. Successful applicants must have a strong command of written and spoken English. Internships are based in the Caixin Global newsroom in Beijing.

Requirements: A two-day commitment each week is a must for a minimum of three months starting Sept. 1. A focus in college on finance and/or journalism preferred.

Full-Time Copy Editor

Caixin Global is looking for a full-time copy editor to be based in Beijing. Finance writer

Finance is a wide-ranging beat, and this reporter will be expected to have a proven command of how different markets and industry players are related and regulated. She or he must be strongly motivated to understand complex financial concepts and phenomena from the inside out--be it banks' off-balance-sheet operations, bond traders' under-the-table repurchase agreements, or trust companies serving as a conduit helping substandard firms get bank loans. Ideal candidates must be able to explain those things in plain language to readers who are not financial experts, keeping the use of jargon to a minimum.

The finance writer will work closely with Caixin's Chinese reporters and editors to organize and rewrite material they contribute, with an eye on different expectations of domestic and foreign audiences.

Requirements: At least three years of working experience in financial reporting at major domestic or foreign news outlets. Strong command of Chinese and English and strong translating skills are a must.

Company reporter

The company reporter must be fascinated with the nitty-gritty of companies, their leaders and the jockeying in China's fiercely competitive industries.   

The company writer will work closely with Caixin's Chinese reporters and editors to organize and rewrite material they contribute, with an eye on different expectations of domestic and foreign audiences. The reporter will contribute regularly to Caixin's Flash of breaking business, financial and economic news. The company reporter will have opportunities to report original stories, attend industry events and build own source network.

The reporter must be able to work under deadline pressure, juggling breaking news and in-depth features with the corporate team.  

Requirements: At least three years of working experience in business reporting at major domestic or foreign news outlets. Strong command of Chinese and English and strong translating skills are a must.

Macroeconomics reporter

The macroeconomics reporter must be knowledgeable about the basics of China's economy, including the major sectors that drive the economy and the special issues that confront each. It also includes being familiar with a host of macro-economic data points and their significance, as well as having sources who can provide insight into the data. He or she must also be well informed about the government's reform agenda, have the ability to navigate through lengthy and sophisticate government documents, official briefing transcripts and, most importantly, be able to explain their significance clearly and concisely.

The macroeconomics reporter often will work closely with Caixin's Chinese reporters and editors to organize and rewrite material they contribute, with an eye on different expectations from domestic and foreign audiences.

Requirements: Significant working experience in economics reporting at domestic or foreign news outlets. Good command of both Chinese and English and strong translating skills are a must.
