The 'Soft Power' Push


(Beijing) -- Chinese investments abroad have soared since the global financial crisis with cash-rich companies scooping up distressed foreign assets. Data from the central bank shows that the figure in 2008 alone surpassed the total from 1980 to 2005. By of the end of 2011, Chinese companies had invested more than US$ 365 billion in 178 countries.
