China's Workers Earned More in 2014, but Percent Raises Shrank

(Beijing) – The average annual salary for Chinese workers rose by about 9 percent to nearly 50,000 yuan last year, the National Bureau of Statistics says, the lowest year-on-year increase since 2011.

The average annual salary for employees in the public sector and at state-owned companies rose by 7.1 percent to 56,000 yuan, if inflation is factored in, the central government's statistics department said. The average salary for private sector workers was 36,000 yuan, up 9 percent.
