Chinese Vice Premier Sun Chunlan warned medical institutions across the country that there’s never an excuse to reject patients, after multiple cases of residents in the Covid-hit city of Xi’an being denied entry to hospitals due to drastic lockdown measures, sparking a public outcry.

One of the most high-profile cases was an eight-month pregnant woman who miscarried Saturday night at a hospital gate in the capital of Northwest China’s Shaanxi province. She had been refused admission because the validity of her most recent Covid-19 test result had expired.
