Guangdong Party Chief Warns Growth Model Must Change

Officials in Guangdong, the country’s top export hub and the biggest provincial-level economy, have pledged to focus on “high-quality development” to meet a GDP growth target that’s more than double last year’s record low expansion of 1.9%.

With a large population and limited resources, the province cannot continue to rely on using land, prices, and labor to gain competitive advantage and to drive economic development, Huang Kunming, Communist Party chief of Guangdong, said on Saturday.
