A battle for control has erupted at battery-materials maker Ningbo Shanshan Co. Ltd. (600884.SH) after the sudden death of its former chairman, pitting his current wife against a son from a previous marriage whom she accuses of snatching the chairman’s job in violation of her rights.

Ningbo Shanshan has defended its installation of Zheng Ju as its new chairman, saying it complies with Chinese securities laws and its own articles of association. But Zhou Ting, who was former Chairman Zheng Yonggang’s wife at the time of his death from a heart attack on Feb. 10, has reportedly said her rights were impaired by the board’s decision.
