This editor will be responsible for Caixin Global's North America-based content curation, tracking business and financial market development in China and the U.S. Based out of North America, the person's daily task may involve original news writing, editing and aggregating news based on Chinese and English publications. The candidate should have strong news judgment and be self-motivated. She or he should be able to write and edit quickly and clearly.
Requirements: The candidate should have at least five years of journalism experience, with deep understanding of both the U.S. and China markets. She or he should have experience in corporate or financial news reporting. The candidate must be fluent in both English and Chinese. Native English speaker is preferred.
The reporter's time will be split between working for the editorial team's finance and economics teams, and its company news team in Beijing. The reporter will also work closely with Caixin's Chinese language reporters to translate their stories, and also have the opportunity to do original reporting. He or she must be able to work under deadline pressure, juggling breaking news and in-depth features.
Requirements: Some knowledge of economic, finance and company news preferred. The ideal candidate will have 1-2 years of experience working at an English-language domestic or foreign news outlet, but recent graduates with interning experience at major news outlets can also be considered. Strong command of Chinese and English and strong English-writing news skills are a must.
The deputy art editor will help the chief art editor oversee the many visual elements in a demanding newsroom in Beijing. The successful applicant must have a variety of art-skill sets to help produce charts to illustrate data changes, timelines, and highlights of news events. The person will also help edit short videos now and then. The successful applicant will have experience in charts, infographics and data visualization projects. Previous experience at a news publication is a plus. The successful applicant must have a strong working knowledge of program languages and visual design tools, and must be able to get up to speed quickly on all facets of the job to be able to fill in when the art editor is on vacation.
Requirements: A consistent record in the news graphics industry; the ability to find data and interpret data/information into visual contents; proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator and other design software; a good command of English and fluency in written Chinese.
This role will work on a freelance basis translating stories from Caixin's weekly magazine into English. Strong knowledge of business writing is a must, as are ability to do jobs quickly on a wide range of financial topics. Successful applicants can be based anywhere in the world, though preferably in Asia to facilitate real-time communication when needed.
