China has set its growth target at 5% for 2024, a goal some consider very challenging, if not impossible, to achieve, particularly due to predictions of a lack of large-scale stimulus for the year. But is this assumption accurate? In its effort to retain and attract investors for business within its borders, China has vowed to improve coordination among various government agencies. The effectiveness of these strategies and their impact on the economy remains to be seen. The direction in which the Chinese economy is headed and how we can prepare for the outcomes are critical questions for us all.

Professor of Economics, National University of Singapore 新加坡国立大学李光耀公共政策学院荣休教授

Chen Kang is a professor of economics at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore. He is the author of The Chinese Economy in Transition: Micro Changes and Macro Implications (1995) and has written journal articles on topics relating to macroeconomic modeling, public choice and public policy, China’s economic reform, and the economic role of government. He received his B.S from Xiamen University and his PhD from the University of Maryland at College Park. He previously served as vice president of the Economic Society of Singapore and director of the East Asian Economic Association. He currently serves on the editorial board of the European Journal of Political Economy, and the advisory board of the China Economic Quarterly. 陈抗教授1982年自厦门大学毕业后留学美国，获得俄亥俄大学硕士学位和马里兰大学博士学位。曾经任职于世界银行社会主义经济改革研究小组以及新加坡国立大学和南洋理工大学。去年，他从新加坡国立大学李光耀公共政策学院退休，退休前担任经济学教授和高级公共行政与管理硕士项目主任，同时也是厦门大学王亚南经济学讲座教授。
