Name The Nameless

Wang Bing's "Man With No Name" was filmed from 2006 to 2009, while he was working on a short feature film and also making preparations for his full-length feature production, "Jia Bian Gou." As he was scouting wilderness locales for these films, Wang Bing happened upon the man who would become the title figure for the director's recent documentary "Man With No Name".

"Man With No Name" records events over the course of one year, beginning in winter and continuing into the next fall. We meet "Man With No Name" man and observe his hermit-like existence: he cooks, eats, and sleeps in a cave, the rest of his time spent eking out a living from the soil. Wang Bing shows us his daily work routine – collecting animal waste for use as fertilizer, plowing and planting his fields, and collecting rainwater from ditches to irrigate his land. He also maintains a homestead he does not live in, using straw and mud to plaster the walls and keep the empty dwelling livable.
