Food Safety Regulators Reshuffled

In a move that some experts say signals a toughened stance on food safety, the Chinese government recently reshuffled its food safety regime, following a spate of high-profile incidents ranging from tainted milk powder to recycled gutter oil.

On November 11, the State Council announced that its Food Safety Commission Office (FSCO) will be taking over for the Ministry of Health when it comes to coordinating food safety enforcement, and will take a leading role in investigating and publicizing major food safety accidents.
