Airline Tests 'Gutter Oil' Fuel
Eastern Airlines launched a test, 85-minute flight partly using bio fuel distilled from so-called gutter oil – waste cooking oil and animal oil. The project is based in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, and is the result of cooperation between one of largest state-owned oil companies, Sinopec, and China National Aviation Fuel. If successful, China would be the fourth country to use indigenously developed bio-fuel in aviation. The country consumes 20 million tons of aviation fuel every year.
