Degrees of Uncertainty in China's Future
In the 1980s, I went to the United States as a scholar and then traveled around Europe, Asia, Africa and even rambled to countries in Oceania. Much of these visits were academic in nature, few were purely for sightseeing. Given the travel restrictions of the time, I was thankful for the opportunities to broaden my perspective. I learned that though China has lagged behind in modern development, and experienced untold suffering as a nation, we should hold our heads up high among the countries of the world. Today, China is no longer a sleeping lion, but stands with an imposing gaze. When we roar, the whole jungle will listen.
