Member of Minor Political Group Calls for End to Party Inquiries
One of the country's minor parties has proposed that the ruling Communist Party stop using an investigative procedure that stands outside the courts to investigate cadres suspected of wrongdoing like corruption. Li Wei, member of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, told the nation's top political advisory body that these inquiries should be handled by the judicial system according to the law. The Communist Party routinely uses a procedure known as "shuanggui" to detain and question cadres before handing cases to a court. Li questioned the legitimacy of a party agency detaining people without a court order and said the lack of transparency over the process exposed the detainees to abuse.
