In early September, over 50 Chinese auto and supply chain companies made a strong showing at the Munich Auto Show in Germany, attracting attention from the European market. Local media, social platforms, and even the industry itself have praised their performance with comments such as "Chinese electric vehicles exceed expectations" and "they are technologically advanced and highly competitive." However, this praise is accompanied by a palpable sense of crisis - the European auto industry may face significant challenges or even a crisis.
Just after the close of the auto show, on September 13, 2023 local time, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, revealed for the first time in a speech to the European Parliament that the Commission was initiating an anti-subsidy investigation targeting Chinese electric vehicles. On October 4, the EU announced it had officially begun its anti-subsidy investigation into pure electric vehicles produced in China. The investigation is expected to last no longer than 13 months.
