He obtained his doctor degree for technical sciences from Technical University Graz, Austria in 1986, and joined Tsinghua University, China in 1987. Since then, he has more than 30 years’ experience in engineering education and research. He had served as vice president of Tsinghua University (1999-2006), and president of Tianjin University (2006-2011) and Nankai University (2011-2018).
He had obtained the Chinese National Teaching Awards and the best teacher awards from different distinguished organizations. He served as Vice Chair of Chinese Higher Education Association.
He was Past President of World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) , and now leading the Task Force for Strategic African Programs of WFEO. He is honorary fellow of International Science Council (ISC). He obtained the Honorable Doctor Degree from Glasgow University (UK) and was visiting scholar of Tokyo University (Japan) and Cambridge University (UK), etc.
Prof Gong Ke was member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the UN Secretary General from 2014-2017.
因主持中国数字电视无线传输标准和微型技术试验卫星的研发等工作，获国家技术发明奖和国防科技奖等奖励。荣获国家级教学成果奖（2018）。获聘联合国秘书长科学咨询委员会成员（2013-2017）、国家高技术研发计划航天航空领域专家委员会专家（2001-2010）等。
