Sumitomo Electric to Boost Tungsten Output 50%, Reducing China Dependence

(Nikkei Asia) — Japan’s Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd. plans to build a new tungsten production plant for 15.9 billion yen ($99.6 million), aiming to reduce dependence on Chinese imports.
The factory announced Thursday will boost the company’s supply system for tungsten, a raw material used in cemented carbide cutting tools, amid concerns about China’s export restrictions. The facility will raise production capacity by 50%.
