In August 2008, he founded the Toy Captain band in Guangzhou, serving as songwriter and lead vocalist.
He focuses on songwriting in the Teochew dialect. His works possess both local and global perspectives. Drawing on ocean folk music, he depicts the stories of overseas Chinese migrants and memories of island life. He has developed a distinctive style known as "Teochew Ocean Folk Music", offering a unique model for integrating China’s indigenous cultural roots with world music.
He composed A Qiaopi Letter in 2012. His 2016 album Youth Photo Studio won the Band of the Year Award and Best Album Design Award at the 18th Chinese Music Media Awards.
In 2019, A Qiaopi Letter was officially collected with attribution as a precious archival document of qiaopi heritage by the archives.
Starting from 2018, Li Yihan worked as the Music Director for Director Lan Hongchun’s Teochew Trilogy: Dad, I Will Make It, Taking You to Meet My Mom, and Dear You.
2008 年 8 月，在广州成立玩具船长乐队，担任词曲创作、主唱。 专注于潮汕方言歌曲创作，兼具地方和世界视野，用海洋民谣书写侨乡往事、海岛记忆，形成了独特的 “潮汕海洋民谣” 风格，为中国根源文化融入世界音乐提供了独特范本。

2016 年发行的专辑《青春照相馆》，获第 18 届华语音乐传媒盛典年度乐队和年度专辑设计奖。
2018 年，第 18 届华语音乐传媒大奖 —— 年度乐队大奖、年度专辑设计大奖。
2019 年，《一封侨批》作品作为档案馆侨批文献珍贵档案资料署名收藏。
2018 年起，担任蓝鸿春导演潮汕三部曲《爸，我一定行的》《带你去见我妈》《给阿嬷的情书》电影音乐总监。
