China is inching closer to North America at the box office.
The Asian country raked in total receipts of $8.8 billion (60.2 billion yuan) this year, as of Sunday, according to industry tracker Maoyan.
That was $2 billion shy of North America’s $11.9 billion, according to Comscore.
Four out of the top 10 films in China this year were Hollywood blockbusters: “Avengers: Infinity War” (No. 5), “Venom” (No. 7), “Aquaman” (No. 8), and “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” (No. 9).
In North America, the top five hits were “Black Panther,” “Avengers,” “Incredibles 2,” “Jurassic World” and “Deadpool 2.”
