Long Live the Film Industry
The film industry has for years shown a trait common to many other industries in China: resources have been concentrated to fund huge state-sponsored projects. This fact was never more evident than in 2009, when the People's Republic celebrated its 60th anniversary, coinciding with the release of the domestic blockbuster The Founding of a Republic. The film went from the hands of its big-name director (Huang Jianxin) to the leader of its state-owned enterprise (China Film Group Chairman Han Sanping). This was an event equivalent to the head of China Central Television (CCTV) directing the annual Spring Festival Gala.
