Defending the Yellow River
The whole China breathed a sigh of relief at noon on January 6.
It was then that monitoring data showed that water flowing from the Sanmenxia reservoir in Henan province into the Yellow River met level-three surface water standards for oil substances – less than 0.05 milligrams per liter. Warnings for the downstream cities of Zhengzhou and Kaifeng, which rely on the Yellow River for water, were cancelled.
