Authority's structure in modern society falls into two categories: charismatic and bureaucratic. Following the exit of any particular charismatic leader, whose authority is based on extraordinary personal appeal, an authority structure will sooner or later shift from reliance on a person to the institutional hierarchy, which tends to be bureaucratic. Bureaucratic leadership is more common and lasts longer.
