Road to Riches for a Poor Village Boy

(Caixin Online) Anhui Province's Wuwei County is best known for poverty and a narrow, twisted road that leads to the cities of Chaohu and Hefei. Tens of thousands have followed this road to the outside world over the past 20 years, usually reaching crowded cities where they find jobs selling salted duck or simply scavenging.

BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu tread this path as well when he left his family village, Wangjiazui, years ago. He traveled to Beijing, graduated from university and eventually founded his Shenzhen-based company, whose 140,000 employees make batteries and cars.
