Stern Hu

(Caixin Online) Australian national Stern Hu was formerly an executive of Rio Tinto's iron ore division in China before being sentenced to 10 years in prison for bribery and commercial spying on March 29.


Born in China in 1963, Hu graduated from Peking University before working for CITIC Group in the 1980s. Following this, he moved to Australia in pursuit of further study and then joined the Australian iron ore producer, Hamersley Iron, which was later taken over by Rio Tinto. Hu obtained Australian citizenship in 1997.
