Geithner's Visit Highlights Yuan Issue
U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner discussed China's exchange rate policy with Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan during a surprise visit to Beijing April 8, an encouraging sign that the two countries are seeking a middle ground.
Geithner's unexpected visit comes just five days after the U.S. Treasury Department announced it would postpone submitting a report to Congress, which assesses the exchange rate policies of major U.S. trading partners, including China. Geithner said last week that they were pursuing "U.S. interests" through a series of high-level meetings.
