BRICs: From Acronym to Global Actor

The acronym BRICs was coined 10 years ago to identify a group of countries – Brazil, Russia, India and China – that started a global transformation.

The change they began is now real and irreversible. Evidence lies in the fact that the BRICs group comprises 15 percent of world GDP. And if these four countries maintain their dynamic pace of economic performance seen over the past decade, BRICs will be the most powerful bloc on the global economic landscape by 2050, overtaking the combined GDP of the G6 economies (Germany, the United States, France, Italy, Japan and Britain).
