Lines that Face Hazard


(Beijing) - During the Wenchuan earthquake in Sichuan province and the Yushu earthquake in Qinghai Province, a number of buildings collapsed. Both were located on active fault zones.

Experts have called for legislation on creating fault line buffer zones to avoid building and engineering facilities near active fault lines. "A short distance from fault zones would make an immense difference," said Fu Bihong, researcher of Geology and Geophysics research lab at Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute.
