Australians See China as Leading Economic Power, Poll Finds
Fifty-five percent of Australians said that China is the world's leading economic power, in a recent survey on foreign policy released earlier this week by the Sydney-based think tank, the Lowy Institute.
According to 2008 figures from the International Monetary Fund, the purchasing power parity for the United States was 20 percent of the world total while for China, it was 11 percent. The European Union had the highest proportion at 21 percent. The IMF's 2010 estimates for the same measure put the U.S. at 20 percent, China at 13 percent and the European Union at 20 percent.
