(Beijing) - Shan Weijian rises early every day for a 12 kilometer run. He's also been known to answer reporter phone calls at midnight.

In between, the 57-year-old financier and mastermind of bank turnarounds has spent busy days for more than a decade building and executing some of Asia's most dynamic mergers and acquisitions, as well as turning around two major banks.

Shan rose as a bright star at TPG Capital, one of the largest private equity funds in the United States, with more than US$ 30 billion in assets under management. He became a TPG partner after the fund took over Asian investment specialist Newbridge in 2006.
