Gansu Mudslides Death Toll at 1,117
Three people were reported missing as a result of heavy rains that hit Zhouqu
County, northwest China's Gansu Province, on the evening of August 11. Major
roads were destroyed as a result of the recent mudslides. The central road
connecting Zhouqu to Lanzhou has been cut completely, which was the major
channel for the transportation of relief materials.
Mudslides in
Gansu Province have killed 1,117 people and left 630 people missing, as of
August 11, according to the Gansu provincial government. Sixty-four people have
been hospitalized under critical condition.
