(Beijing) – A drunk driver who crashes and kills in China may be punished as a traffic offender by some courts, and treated as a threat to public security by others.

Such is the state of judicial decision-making in China, where courtroom inconsistencies are an everyday affair, and a phenomenon known as "same case, different sentences" has spread deep roots throughout the judiciary.
