China's Industrial Power Gobblers Get the Ax

A major campaign to save energy and cut emissions in China’s biggest steel-producing region began in early September as county and city authorities imposed production and power restrictions at iron, steel and coke plants across Hebei Province.

But Hebei was not the only jurisdiction jolting factories in recent months. Since late July, similar orders have been issued in Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Shanxi provinces, as well as in several autonomous regions.
