China's VP Appointed to Top Military Position

China's Vice President Xi Jinping was named vice chairman of the Central Military Commission on October 18, during the CPC Central Committee's meeting. He joins the two current vice chairmen of the CMC, Guo Boxiong and Xu Caihou. The Central Military Commission oversees the Chinese military.
Xi, a native of Fuping, Shaanxi Province, was born in June 1953. He joined the Chinese Communist Party in January 1974. A graduate of Tsinghua University, Xi majored in Marxist theory and ideological education.
