(Shanghai) – The municipal government announced November 23 that families of the 58 victims confirmed dead will receive 960,000 yuan in compensation, eight days after a deadly high-rise apartment fire in Jing'an District in Shanghai.

"We were responsible for the fatal accident," said Zhang Renliang, director of Jing'an District. Zhang said the compensation will include public donations and government funds. Victims without the Shanghai Hukou will be eligible for compensation as Shanghai residents.

Fifty-seven of them have been identified by their families through DNA tests, according to a press conference held by the Shanghai municipal government on November 23.
