Latest Beijing Housing Controls Set off Controversy

(Beijing) -- The newly-released housing control policies in Beijing which include a set of 15 measures outlining purchasing restrictions for migrant residents has created a round of simmering debates across the country.

The policies were released on February 16, effective immediately, to the surprise of many market observers. The 15 measures are now widely-considered to be the most restrictive property market regulations issued yet. Analysts and scholars have voiced concern over whether regulations regarded as the most-onerous so far will have any effect. Meanwhile, others have expressed misgivings over the legality of the regulations, in relation to private property rights.
