Obama Picks Locke as China Ambassador

(Washington/Beijing) – U.S. President Obama officially announced Gary Locke as his selection for ambassador to China on March 9. Word of the selection was leaked out earlier this week by some senior administration officials.


In his remarks, Obama said he could think of "nobody who is more qualified than Gary Locke" for the job.
Shortly after the announcement, Locke, the current U.S. Secretary of Commerce remarked on his nomination as the U.S. ambassador to China.
