Toxic Chemicals Found in Chinese Toys

(Beijing) – Harmful chemicals were found in children's toys sold in mainland China and Hong Kong, Greenpeace said May 18, as it asked government authorities to ban the use of certain toxic chemicals.

Phthalates exceeding 10 percent of the toy's weight were confirmed in 19 of 30 samples purchased in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong, by an independent laboratory according to a report issued by the environmental NGO.
