Officials Sentenced Over Fatal Shanghai Fire

(Shanghai) – A total of 26 people were convicted of bribery and other crimes in six cases related to the deadly Shanghai high-rise building fire in November 2010, which killed 58 people.
The No. 2 Intermediate People's Court of Shanghai sentenced 26 local government officials, construction company employees and unqualified welders to prison terms of up to 16 years. In addition to criminal convictions, 28 officials and construction company employees were punished with Party disciplinary or administrative penalties.

Gao Weizhong, former director of the Construction and Transport Committee of Jing'an District convicted of taking bribes in the 30-million-yuan renovation project and received 16 years in prison.
