Birds Nest Products Recalled for Excessive Preservatives

(Beijing) – Beijing Tongrentang Group Co. (TRT), one of the country's largest traditional Chinese medicine retailers has recalled its edible bird's nest products on food safety concerns, according to the company on August 21. Bird's nest imports from Malaysia were found to contain excessively high levels of sodium nitrate, a food preservative.

The company said in a statement on August 21 that sales of the product were halted in all Tongrentang stores, including international outlets, on August 17, according to Xinhua News Agency.
