Purchasing Power, Not GDP, Matters

In a recent UBS report measuring per capita purchasing power by city in 2011, Beijing and Shanghai ranked 61 and 63, respectively of the 73 cities tracked.

Shanghai ranked 54th in the UBS report in 2006 -- Beijing was not included in the survey then. The survey highlighted an increasingly apparent disparity between per capita purchasing power and the country's robust gross domestic product expansion.
