China Telecom and China Unicom could be forced to pay billions of yuan in fines based on a regulator's charge that they abused their control of the nation's broadband Internet market.

A news program on state-controlled China Central Television was the platform November 9 for a government antitrust official's announcement that the telecoms, which enjoy exclusive broadband oversight in assigned territories nationwide, were under investigation.
