After Scandals, China Sees Blood Supply Shortage
Months after a spate of charity scandals eroded public trust in philanthropy, officials say China is now experiencing a blood supply shortage.
At a regular press briefing December 13, Health Ministry spokesman Deng Haihua said China is facing a significant blood shortage, and encouraged members of the public to donate blood.
Deng did not say how severe the shortage is, but noted that the proportion of citizens donating blood remains low, compared to other countries.
