Controversy Surrounds Chongqing Official

In a February 9 Xinhua News Agency report, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Wang had entered the U.S. consulate and stayed there for a day. The report said officials have launched an investigation into the issue, without giving further details.

At a press conference earlier that day, Chinese vice-foreign minister Cui Tiankai said Wang's case was an "isolated incident" and that the issue had been "resolved and resolved quite smoothly," without elaborating on Wang's current whereabouts.
