Tranquility and Turbulence

 "Zhongnanhai deserves its reputation," says a vice-mayor visiting from a village in Hunan Province. "Arriving there, you first feel the tranquility. The place is filled with a solemn tranquility."

The minor official, the subject of a new documentary, faced the camera with a mixture of admiration, innocence and curiosity regarding the huge compound next to the Forbidden City. "In some places tranquility can be very sad … but in Zhongnanhai, the residential and office compound of top Chinese leaders, you will know what solemn tranquility is."
