Chinese Students Hungry for Foreign Degrees Caught in Scandal

Education has become a money spinner for foreign universities and Chinese agents that recruit from a large pool of students eager to study abroad. No doubt, most students receive quality educations and degrees they can be proud of. However, in some instances, students are getting involved in messy situations.

Problems at Dickinson State University, in the U.S. state of North Dakota, are one example of this. On February 10, 2012, the North Dakota University System released results of an audit of DSU that found it improperly awarded of hundreds of degrees. The same day, Doug LaPlante, dean of the university's college of education, business and applied sciences, committed suicide. The vice president of academic affairs, Jon Brudvig, resigned two days later.
