NPC Passes Revised Criminal Procedure Law
(Beijing) – China's legislature adopted comprehensive changes to the country's Criminal Procedure Law on March 14, including a controversial provision that some scholars argue legalizes secret detentions.
The National People's Congress voted on the law with 2,639 votes in favor, 57 abstentions and 160 votes opposed.
Yesterday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Liu Weimin, said the law embodied the principles of punishing criminals and protecting human rights.
