Bo Xilai Removed From Chongqing Post

Bo Xilai has been removed from his position as party secretary of Chongqing, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China said on March 15. Zhang Dejiang, a vice premier, was given the position and Bo's spot on the municipality's party standing committee, state-owned Xinhua News Agency reported.

Li Yuanchao, head of the party's Organization Department, announced the decision today at a meeting of top Chongqing officials. Central authorities made the decision based on the national situation, he said.
