NGO Says Civil Service Physical Exam Holds Gender Bias

(Beijing) – Considered one of the most competitive job recruitment processes in the country, an NGO has charged the Civil Service Bureau with overstepping its authority as an employer with prerequisite pelvic exams targeted at women.

Yirenping Center, an NGO that focuses on labor law issues, said it sent a letter on March 19 calling upon the Ministry of Health and the Civil Service Bureau to cancel or amend rules requiring women to pass a gynecological check for eligibility in candidate selection.
