(Beijing) – The Ministry of Railways has long claimed success for a technology transfer program at the heart of China's effort to weave a giant network of high-speed trains.

"After nearly three years of digestion," the ministry's former deputy chief engineer, Zhang Shuguang, declared in 2007, rail sector companies "have mastered nine key technologies and 10 main supporting technologies" for bullet trains.
