Wang Lijun Sentenced to 15 Years in Jail

(Beijing) – Lurching to an end after months of proceedings closed off from the public, former Chongqing police chief Wang Lijun was sentenced to 15 years in prison for abuse of power, corruption and defection.

The Chengdu Intermediate People's Court in southwestern China's Sichuan Province announced Wang's sentence on the morning of September 24. Wang said he would not appeal the sentence, according to state-run media. The sentence was largely viewed as lenient for charges that could have carried the death penalty.
