Poverty Fight Imperative amid Economic Turmoil, World Bank Head Says

(Tokyo) – The need to combat poverty is imperative, especially in times of economic hardship and uncertainty, the president of the World Bank says.

As the International Monetary Fund and World Bank annual meetings began in Tokyo on October 11, Jim Yong Kim stressed the importance of sharing member countries' experience in fighting poverty.

"Everyone is vulnerable during times of uncertainty, but especially the poor who have few, in any, safety nets and resources and live from day to day," Kim said.
